ACECL is committed to aggressive involvement in legislative, local government, and public sector policymaking, protecting qualified-based selection of engineering services and other preferred procurement practices, expanded project delivery options, and appropriate legal and liability systems affecting the industry.
ACECL is the collective voice of the private consultant community in the Louisiana Legislature, lobbying on your behalf, and crafting legislation designed to protect your business interests and enhance your business practice. Listed below are the latest major legislative accomplishments for ACECL:
- 2006 – The Hammett Act that prohibits the bidding of professional design services was passed.
- 2012 – Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) delivery method of procuring engineering services on public projects was signed into law.
- 2021 – Act 486 a phased-in rededication of the state’s vehicle sales tax revenue from the general fund to the (Transportation) Construction Subfund. The passage of this legislation represented Louisiana’s largest reoccurring investment in transportation infrastructure since the 1980s.
- 2022 – The passage of Act 145 was the culmination of a ten-year effort to define the incidental practice of engineering in state statute.
